Well, here's the start to my razor collection (and assorted, related ephemera). Comments, additional information, or questions welcome.

Goodwill Razors

First, the few Goodwills I have. Personally, these are among my favorite razors - they give a good shave and tend to be gentle razors if you use a light touch. One shortcoming is being sure everything is lined up when screwing the head, base, and handle together. If not done correctly, the razor can be an unpleasant shaver. (I discovered 4 additional Goodwills in doing this inventory. I'll update this section when I research and photograph the additions.)

The razors are differentiated by the design of the head - the handle is the same as a ball-tipped Tech handle.

The two razors on the left are from 1931 - on the far left is the #162 head with a design on the head. Next to it is a Special Goodwill #175 (Canadian) from 1931 - this razor is the most difficult of the three to get lined up correctly. On the right is a boxed Goodwill #160 from 1931 or later. The insert for this box says "Only genuine Gillette and Probak Blades will fit this New Gillette Razor". So, presumably, this would have been issued around the time that Gillette acquired Probak.

Aristocrats

Next, is probably my favorite group of Gillettes overall. These are the Aristocrats. In particular, the 1946/1947 Aristocrat is my "personal best" for giving an excellent, comfortable shave. The #66 is a beautiful razor and a close second the the 1946/47. The 1948/1950 Aristocrat is just a touch too aggressive for me.

From left to right, top row: 1937 Sheraton, 1934-1940 Aristocrat, 1948-49 Aristocrat, and 1953 British #66.

From left to right, bottom row: 1946-47 Aristocrats (all three of them.

Techs

Next, is my collection of boxed Gillette Techs. The Techs seems particularly difficult to identify with any specificity, as far as I know. Gillette used different packaging and different razors. But they are terrific, gentle razors.

As far as IDing these goes, I generally went by what info I could find on the boxes. All of these Techs came in the box each one is shown with.

Tuckaways

I've always been attracted to the Tuckaway (there was also a similar line called Chsterfield) case and razor: a beautiful, portable case containing a nicely designed razor. Yet, I have not shaved with one of these. Don't know why.

From left to right: 1922 silver, 1927 silver, 1925 silver (this razor appears to never have been used); and a gold Tuckaway probably from 1927-29 as there is no serial number on the blade bed.

Pocket Editions

The Gillette Pocket Editions (manufactured by the American Button Company) are probably some of the most beautifully done whimsical razors. The added designs to the handles and cases just add an extra something that makes these razors special. The 1909 razors, in particular, have been gentle razors (though it takes a little adjustment to one's technique). Apologies for the lousy photo.

From left to right: 1909 silver Empire pattern; 1909 gold Empire pattern; 1915 gold (handle may be mismatched - questions in this area of the Pocket Editions); 1917 gold Flower pattern; 1920 silver Basket pattern (handle is probably correct for this one, as it seems Gillette was using the ball-tipped handle in later editions).

Miscellaneous Cased Old Style

These are just a grouping of the older, cased/boxed razors I have to finish up the older razors (for the most part). I actually like these cased razor sets for different reasons. If nothing else it shows that Gillette was creative in its approach to getting razors out there and, sometimes, even adding a touch of luxury to a simple implement.

From left to right: Gillette New Colgate/Palmolive promo razor (unused); 1917 Standard Combined Set; 1911 Old Type with black, cardboard blade boxes; undated Old Standard in oddly shaped case; undated sterling silver Old Standard with box; 1906 Single Ring (my oldest razor, not yet used)
