Baxter of California is a Los Angeles based male skin care and grooming brand incorporating skincare, shaving and hair care products.
Founded in 1965 by advertising executive, Baxter Finley, it was one of the first grooming lines to launch in the United States just for men. The company began with the launch of its Super Shape moisturizer and upon this products success, the company began to branch out into other men's products.
The company continued to expand under Baxter Finley's leadership until 2000 when he retired and sold the company to a family friend, Jean-Pierre Mastey, who had previously been an entrepreneur sourcing trends and fashion items for the Japanese market. Today JP has re-branded Baxter with new packaging and new products, attempting to target a more style conscious male.
Baxter of California makes marketing claims that its products will work will well alone or in tandem with the rest of the line. Their current lineup includes:
- clay masks, face washes and scrubs
- skin toners, lotions, and night creams
- body washes and soaps
- hair shampoos, conditioners, and pomades
- shave creams, after shave balms, and razor bump treatments
- lip balms
