Fragrances can make you smell nice! Perfume, cologne and so on are essentially mixes of various oils that provide the scent mixed together with various extra compounds such as alcohol, water and neutral-smelling oils. The oils can be either from a plants or animals (usually refered to as "essential oils" or EO) or synthetic man-made oils ("fragrance oils" or FO).
Fragrances come in different concentrations, which have different names. There is no hard regulations on these names though, and it should not be assumed that for instance an Eau de Toilette is stronger in scent than all Eau de Colognes. In order of concentration the names are: Perfume extract, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne and finally Eau de Solide.
